The Need for an Information Security Conference
August 18, 2004
The security threats to an organization’s IT infrastructure are no longer a technical issue. It is a management issue and concern. These cannot simply be ignored to give way to other business issues that have a direct impact on the bottom line. For the past few years, attacks ranging from computer viruses to denial-of-service to suicide aircrafts have shocked the global business community. The effects were classified as either loss of business opportunities; or worst, loss of the business itself.
The Information System Security Society of the Philippines (ISSSP) believes that the Philippines should not be left behind in the global initiative to defend our respective businesses against any form of IT security threat (or “cyberterrorism”). Though a physical attack similar to 9/11 in the US could probably be considered outside our “circle of influence” as IT professionals, prudence compels us to hope for the best yet prepare for the worst. The ISSSP is the country’s melting pot of able and brilliant ideas in the field of Information Systems Security.
Through the 3rd Annual Philippine Information Systems Security conference we see the IT security community joining forces to win the battle against cyberattacks and
cyberterrorism.
